Our economy is fueled from energy. Most of this country's electricity comes from coal, not Big Bird. Electricity rates affect everybody in the US, and thus the world. Its not great, but its what we have.

Well, Oxygen is a by-product of just about all plant respiration, phytoplankton is one part of that equation. Keep in mind, over two-thirds of the Earth are covered by ocean.

There's a guy in the states who designed a solar powered boat to do just that very thing. If I had a million bucks to invest in his project, I would. There's a gold mine, just floating out there, waiting for someone to go get it.

1/3rd from that 1/3rd from the rain forest and 1/3rd from the tiger belt in Russia was where I understood O2 to come from. And in my opinion it's in their best interests to learn how to collect plastic waste from the top of the sea rather than drilling ..
Cannabal - December 11, 2014, 3:02 pm
Actually, what all the plastic and petroleum pollution is doing to the ocean is killing phytoplankton, the most important organism on the planet, because THAT is what is producing the majority of Oxygen in the air.
Curlyrocks - December 10, 2014, 4:03 pm
I suppose that all the plastic in the sea is taking up room that algae should be using to trap carbon, but other than that it's pretty round about. Unless I get my way and we start fishing all that plastic out of the sea and burning it for energy.
Cannabal - December 10, 2014, 2:55 pm
Pollution does have a large effect on the environment, which has a gradual effect on weather patterns. Take acid rain, for instance.

I don't remember plastic refuse being part of the climate change debate. Part of the larger debate on pollution yes, but not climate change.
